FAQs about Our World Tea Expo 2025 Booth
What is the World Tea Expo, and why does it matter for the tea industry?
The World Tea Expo is the largest tea industry trade show in the United States, held annually at the Las Vegas Convention Center. It's been running since 2003 and has become the main place where tea farmers, importers, retailers, and cafe owners from around the world meet under one roof.
Why it matters: most of the tea world is fragmented across countries that don't naturally talk to each other. A Japanese farm and a Sri Lankan farm and a Kenyan farm rarely cross paths. The expo is one of the few moments where they all show up in the same building, taste each other's teas, and trade ideas. The Global Tea Championship awards ceremony also happens during the show, which is part of why it draws serious attention.
Honestly, if you're seriously into tea — even as a consumer — getting a trade pass and walking the floor for a day is one of the more eye-opening experiences you can have. Worth it once.
What happened at our World Tea Expo 2025 booth?
This was our first time having a booth at the World Tea Expo since the COVID pandemic interrupted the events. We were at booth #5322 in the South Hall on March 25–26, 2025. As it turned out, our matcha (抹茶) also won all five categories at the Global Tea Championship the same week, which was an unexpectedly good first event back.
We brought our full event booth setup — the Port Orford Cedar backdrop with the koshi (格子) lattice pattern that Miki designed — along with samples of our matcha, sencha (煎茶), and a few products that hadn't been publicly released yet. The booth ended up being a real talking point on the show floor, partly because of the wood and partly because the championship trophies were sitting on it by the second day.
We met a lot of people whose work we'd been admiring from a distance for years. That alone made the trip worth it.
What products did we showcase at our booth?
Our ceremonial matcha (抹茶) was the centerpiece, partly because it ended up winning the Global Tea Championship that week. We did live whisking demos for visitors and let people taste it cold-whisked alongside hot to show how the same tea reads differently at different temperatures.
Beyond matcha, we showed our sencha (煎茶) lineup, a few wakocha (和紅茶) Japanese black teas, hojicha in both leaf and powder form, and gyokuro (玉露) for the more advanced palates who came through. We also previewed a couple of products that hadn't launched publicly yet — we usually use the expo as a soft-launch venue to gauge reactions.
If you're curious what's typically on the booth, those four core categories — matcha, sencha, wakocha, hojicha — are pretty consistent year to year. The teaware varies by season.
Can the public attend the World Tea Expo, or is it industry-only?
Officially, the World Tea Expo is a trade-only show — meaning attendees are supposed to be tea industry professionals, retailers, restaurateurs, journalists, or related. There's a registration process and you have to indicate your professional connection to tea.
In practice, the registration screening isn't strict. Plenty of serious tea enthusiasts attend each year by registering as small retailers, bloggers, or independent tea businesses, and there's no real penalty for being a passionate amateur in the room. The cost of a two-day pass is around $200 at retail, though we offer a discounted code to anyone who reaches out (it was $75 in 2025).
If you want to go and you're not in the industry but you take tea seriously, my advice is to register honestly as someone interested in the trade and just go. The community is welcoming. Nobody's going to quiz you on the way in.
How can I stay updated on future events and tasting opportunities?
The two best places. First, our newsletter — we always announce upcoming events there a few weeks ahead, including World Tea Expo, regional markets like Maum Market and Bread and Salt, and any pop-ups or partnerships we're doing. The newsletter signup is on the bottom of every page on our site.
Second, our Instagram (@japanesegreenteaco). We post events there too, plus stories during the events themselves, so if you can't make it to one in person, you still get to see what's happening on the booth.
Honestly, if you're already a customer, it's worth being on at least one of the two channels. We do enough events around the West Coast that there's usually one within driving distance for our regulars.

The Sencha Lover Gift Set - Premium Japanese Green Tea Set Package
This tea set features three exceptional Japanese green teas, each crafted with care and traditional techniques. Issaku Reserve, a Global Tea Champion winner in 2017 and 2019, is a rare masterpiece created by Farm Master Mr. Arahata at Arahataen Green Tea Farm. Handpicked once a year from the first flush and processed with advanced methods, Issaku represents the highest-grade deep-steamed green tea, available only in limited quantities even in Japan.
The set also includes Gyokuro, a premium shaded green tea known for its rich, sweet flavor and deep mossy green color. Grown under special mats for 20 days to increase caffeine and amino acid levels, Gyokuro offers a layered, smooth taste unlike any other. Completing the collection is Nozomi, a fine Kabuse-cha, or "Covered Green Tea," carefully grown under nets to gently shade the leaves just before new sprouts emerge, resulting in a soft, rich, and refined flavor profile.
Gyokuro - Shaded Imperial Premium Green Tea
Gyokuro, also known as "jade dew" or "jewel dew tea," is a premium Japanese green tea shaded from the sun for 20 days using specially made mats, a method that boosts caffeine levels and strengthens amino acids to create a sweeter, richer flavor. This extended shading process results in dark, mossy green leaves with an unmistakable aroma and a complex taste that is layered yet balanced. Cultivated by the Chagusaba method in nutrient-rich sugarcane soil and made from the Yabukita cultivar, this loose-leaf authentic Gyokuro is offered in a high-quality, air-tight paper tube canister (chyazutsu) to preserve its exceptional freshness and flavor. Each 3.5 oz (100g) full-size package steeps 30–40 cups, and a convenient single-serve sample is also available.
Hojicha - Roasted Green Tea
Our roasted green tea, known as hojicha (ほうじ茶), is crafted from freshly harvested premium green tea carefully roasted in porcelain over charcoal to maximize flavor while retaining more catechins than typical hojicha on the market. With lower caffeine and a smoother, less bitter taste compared to steamed green tea, it is an ideal choice for evening relaxation and is gentle enough for kids and pregnant women. Cultivated using the Chagusaba method in nutrient-rich sugarcane soil, this loose-leaf authentic Japanese roasted green tea, made from the Yabukita cultivar, also pairs beautifully with oily foods. Each eco-friendly resealable package contains 3.5 oz (100g) of tea, enough to steep 30–40 comforting cups.
Matcha - Ceremonial Japanese Powdered Green Tea
This ceremonial matcha is crafted from the finest Japanese green tea, grown in nutrient-rich soil enhanced with compostable grasses and sugarcane through the Chagusaba method, which gives the tea a natural sweetness and exceptional flavor. In collaboration with researchers from Shizuoka University, farmers ensure that the soil quality consistently produces tea of the highest standard.
Renowned among top Japanese chefs for its unmatched aroma, this matcha is made by carefully shading the plants before harvest to boost caffeine and amino acids, then meticulously drying, de-stemming, and grinding the leaves into a fine powder. Made from the Yabukita cultivar, this 1.8 oz (50g) matcha comes in a high-quality, air-tight paper tube canister, providing a luxurious and authentic Japanese tea experience.
Genmaicha - Green Tea with Roasted Brown Rice
Our premium Japanese Genmaicha blends high-quality green tea with roasted popped brown rice (genmai 玄米), often nicknamed "popcorn tea" because the roasting process sounds like popcorn popping. Popular especially among the older generation in Japan for its mild flavor and lower caffeine content, this tea is easier on the stomach while still offering a rich, comforting taste. The brown rice used is premium Japanese mochi-gome (もち米) sticky rice, enhancing the tea’s nutty, aromatic profile. Made from Fukamushi Sencha and cultivated using the Chagusaba method in nutrient-rich sugarcane soil, this Genmaicha features the Yabukita cultivar and comes in a 7.0 oz (200g) eco-friendly resealable package, enough to steep 50–60 cups.
