Green Tea Club Newsletter 04/02/2026 - Mario + OC Japan + Most Dangerous Katana

Hi

I hope your week is going well!

First of all — thank you so much to everyone who wrote back about yesterday's Japanese Margarita Co. announcement.

I'm sorry to say... it was our April Fool's joke! It's not real (at least not yet? 😄).

But I had so much fun reading your responses, and I hope it gave you a good smile. Some of you actually said you'd buy it — so who knows!

[In case you missed it, scroll down below for the original message I sent yesterday.]

Okay, now for some real updates. I have three things to share with you this week!

First — Super Mario and Japanese Green Tea (+ Yoshi Matcha Cookie Recipe!)

Have you seen The Super Mario Galaxy Movie yet? It just came out on April 1!

We went to the Dodgers game on 3/31 to get the Yoshi Bobble Head (we were too late — still sad about it!) but it was such a fun night seeing everyone in Yoshi gear.

To celebrate, we made Yoshi Matcha Cookies and wrote a whole article about how Mario and Japanese green tea are actually connected. Did you know they both come from Kyoto? And that the Nintendo Museum in Uji serves a matcha float using tea from a shop that's even older than Nintendo?

I had so much fun writing this one. Please click here to check out the article, the video recipe, and some nerdy Nintendo-matcha history!

Second — OC Japan Fair This Weekend! (April 3–5)

This is the big one — OC Japan Fair is THIS WEEKEND and we'll be at Booth #A8!

This is our third time, and we have some really exciting things planned:

  • Miki Pon will have her own art section at our booth for the first time — featuring her original artwork!
  • New products for you to try
  • Our upgraded Port Orford Cedar booth (it keeps getting better)

The event has 250+ booths, a live tuna cutting show, a new Akihabara Electric Town section, the Freedom LA Japanese Music Festival (included with your ticket on Fri & Sun), and more.

Dates: Fri 4PM–10PM · Sat 12PM–10PM · Sun 11AM–7PM
Where: OC Fair & Event Center, Costa Mesa, CA
Tickets: $23.18 at the door (buy tickets here)

Last time 52,000 people came and it sold out — so get your tickets early!

Please click here for the full details, floor map, and what to expect!

Third — History of Katana: Season 1 is Now Complete!

If you've been following our History of Katana YouTube series, we just released the full Season 1 of History's Most Dangerous Katana — all 7 episodes now combined into one full-length feature.

The season covers some of the most chilling sword stories in Japanese history, from Heshikiri Hasebe to Kasen Kanesada. Even if you watched the individual episodes, seeing them all together gives a different experience.

Please click here to watch Season 1!

With love and gratitude,

Kei Nishida
& the team from Dream of Japan
